The town of Horice is mostly known for the production of the Horice rolls. According to legend, the recipe was a present for Mrs. Líčková, given to her by a wounded general and chef of Napoleon’s as a reward for the treatment. (The existence of this delicacy in France is documented in a painting from the year of 1630). It happened in 1812 during the French’s way back home from their Russian march. The recipe had been inherited within the family , till a confectioner Karel Kofránek, who had married into the family, succeeded with the rolls in the world under the lable “Kofranek rolls” and got many awards for them. However, a lot of other producers made the rolls in the town. After the year of 1949 all the manufactories were nationalized and the production was concentrated into the national company of “Pardubický perník”(Pardubice gingerbread) and later into the company of “Průmysl trvanlivého pečiva Praha” (The Indutry Of Durable Pastry Prague). The business production was gradually moved outside Horice. However, Horice citizens continued producing the rolls for themselves. A local company of communal services renewed the production in the town in the year of 1967.
The company of “Genuine Horice Rolls” was founded in 1999, when the company Exver Food, s.r.o. bought business shares from the then traditional producer of Horice rolls.
